Subacromial subdeltoid bursitis

Patient Positioning

Patient seated on a revolving stool, arm in external rotation. Elbow flexed (90°), palm up.

Probe Positioning

Move the probe medially from the insertion of the subscapularis tendon at the lesser tuberosity to the coracoid process. Use dynamic scanning (passive external and internal rotation with hanging arm) to examine the entire tendon and its myotendinous junction. Bursal effusion becomes visible distally using no pressure of the transducer.

Shoulder anterior view
Note: subacromial subdeltoid bursitis with effusion, synovial proliferation and degenerative changes of the supraspinatus tendon and the humeral head, calcifications.
Note: subacromial subdeltoid bursitis with extension of the fluid medially below the acromion (right side of the window) and above the supraspinatus tendon / muscle
Note: subacromial subdeltoid bursitis with extension of the fluid and positive doppler signal

Note: Bursitis with small effusion and thickening

Note: Bursitis with anechoiv effusion in the subacromial subdeltoid bursa, thickening of the bursal layer

Note: extension of the bursal effusion medially below the acromion and above the supraspinatus muscle / tendon
