Injection hip

Patient Positioning

Patient supine, leg may be in slight external rotation.

Probe Positioning

Place the transducer on oblique longitudinal planes over the femoral neck and head. Lower ultrasonic frequencies may be necessary. Perform the injection in plane. Using steer mode may help to visualize the needle better.

Note: performing ultrasound guided injections into the joint recess of the hip, the needle can be difficult to detect due to its angle. Try to perform the injection in plane. You may start with a local anaesthesia of the soft tissue under ultrasound guidance as a test to find the perfect angle for your needle.
