Patient Positioning
Patient lies supine with a small pillow under the dorsal aspect of the ankle or legs in “frog-like” position. The ankle is lying on its lateral aspect.
Probe Positioning
Place the transducer in a longitudinal way over the midfoot joints.


Patient with extreme pain, redness and swellig over the medially located midfoot joints. Known polyarticular gout, nephropathy. The ultrasound shows a synovitis of the joint between the medial cuneiform and 1st metatarsal bone and – typical in gout – a inflammation of the sorrounding tissue.
